Stamps And Long Lost Towns

I came across this pretting interesting post about collecting stamps and ghost towns. I like thinking about these thousands of places across America – towns that had families and history – and then over a couple of years, they were gone. Spooky. This guy’s grandfather – or great-grandfather, one of the two – had a run-in with a bunch of letters from ghost towns. It’s not spooky, but it is pretty messed up what happens to all the evidence from those towns. Talk about throwing money away…but also destroying history. The stuff mentioned in the article could have gone in the Smithsonian, or at least in some cool little museums out west somewhere.

This past year has been brutal on the stocks that my wife and I own together. My wife and I started investing together about 12 years ago and up till last year did very well. Just yesterday I was looking in my Wall Street Journal and it wasn’t a pretty picture. One of the things that I want to start doing is look into buying some real estate. I have never really considered owning property out of the country; however the article changed my mind quickly.

I don’t know why some people jump into the craziest of exercise programs from right off the couch. I guess it does work for some. For instance, a friend of mine decided that training for triathlon races that were coming up in town was a good way to jump start his workout routine. He started running, swimming and riding all the time and he actually finished his first race only about three months after he started training. I know that his training was difficult and he really had to push himself but I also know that the end result was totally worth it.
