Over the past decade there has been a big shift in the trend towards women working within the mining industry. This may be due to women being able to perform certain jobs better than men or perhaps it might be due to better safety record and work ethics. Either way mining jobs for women has become a very sound and prosperous career option, even though the mining industry has been prodominately male dominated for many years. Infact, according to statistics, the trend is almost reversing with more women applying for mining positions than men, with over 56% of applications being that of females. Some say that this statistic is due to the evolution of advanced machinery and technology which has dramaticaly reduced the need for hands on physical work
