My Experiences at an Islamic Wedding Party

I happened to go to a Islamic wedding party and it appeared to be very funny and interesting to me. The bridegroom would not see the bride at all till the marriage is over. The night before the day of the wedding, mehandi – leaves of a herb is smashed into paste and applied over the hands of the bride and it had given a reddish effect the next days.

The bride was all covered with a veil and no body could easily see her face. Ladies and gens were seated separately and they chanted some hymns for conducting the marriage.

They asked the consent of both bride and groom and that was all, the marriage was over. The thing to take note is, here groom gives dowry to the bride to take her into his life. Then, one of the elderly woman tied a string of black beads in the neck of the bride. This, they say, is only an indication of marriage and no holiness was associated with it. Biriyani – the specially cooked tasty dish was served after the marriage, supplied by a caterer in Leicester. The whole procedure was very interesting.
